What is journaling?
Journaling is the art of regularly writing down your thoughts and feelings that can be inspired by a prompt or prompts. Whether this is every day, once a week or whenever you find a quiet moment, the important part is to try and stay consistent. To start, all you need is a journal and a pen (the prettier, the better).
Why is journaling important?
Journaling everyday is great for self-expression and self-discovery. Allowing you to process emotions, journaling can also help set goals and reflect on daily life. You can use journaling however you like, whether that’s to document your journey, ignite creativity, organise your thoughts or manage stress. Consistent journaling is proven to enhance mental wellbeing, increase self-awareness and create a sense of gratitude, particularly when using prompts that encourage a positive answer.
What are journal prompts?
Journal prompts are usually questions or phrases that encourage the user to write in their journal. You can elaborate on your answer as much as you like; the more you write the better! The aim is to guide you through the exploration of your thoughts, but don’t worry, no one else has to read them!
How do I start journaling?
Anyone can begin their journaling journey at any time; it doesn’t have to be any particular time or day, the sooner you start the better. Most people journal with a good, old-fashioned paper and pen, but you can journal digitally if you’d like to. If it’s your first day journalling, find a prompt that you’d like to write about (it could be from this list) and just being writing – it’s that easy!
