It’s scientifically proven* that smoothies taste nicer when they look cool, and this one is the coolest.
I’ve been seeing layered smoothies everywhere lately and wanted to put an Energy Burst spin on one. Paired with a blue spirulina and banana combo, the yellow and blue mix together to make a beautifully vibrant drink that makes the perfect breakfast or midday snack.

Why Energy Burst?
Energy Burst adds balanced energy to your day with a mix of cordyceps, lions mane and reishi mushroom to improve focus and cognitive function. With no jitters or crash, Energy Burst is perfect for those who dislike coffee or the ‘buzzed’ feeling of regular energy drinks but are instead looking for something subtly sweet to get them through the day.
Why Blue Spirulina?
Blue spirulina is a nutrient-dense superfood renowned for its high protein content, antioxidants, and essential vitamins and minerals. It’s particularly rich in phycocyanin, which gives it its vibrant blue colour and has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Consuming blue spirulina can boost immune function, improve gut health, enhance energy levels, and support cardiovascular health. Additionally, its natural detoxifying properties help cleanse the body of toxins, making it a valuable addition to a balanced diet.

Preparing Your Energy Smoothie Ingredients
To make things a little easier for you, make sure you chop your banana and mango before freezing. Putting a whole banana or mango in the freezer and trying to work with it is an absolute nightmare, do future you a favour and chop them first! Also ensure that you freeze them in separate containers for about 2 hours as they’ll be used separately in this recipe.
A JOYFUL TIP: Energy Smoothie Consistency
Depending on how thick you would like your smoothie to be depends on how much ice and milk you add. More ice and less milk will make your smoothie thicker, but you do need a good blender to crush your ice correctly. But don’t worry – if your blender struggles with lots of ice, your smoothie will still taste delicious regardless! To discover a consistency that suits you, start by added smaller amounts of ice and milk and build upon accordingly.
Blending Your Smoothie Layers
For maximum aesthetic value we are going to make separate layers for our Energy Smoothie!
Yellow Layer
- Add mango, Energy Burst, ice cubes and milk to blender and blend until smooth.
- Pour into spare glass
Blue Layer
- Add banana, spirulina, milk and ice cubes to a blender and blend until smooth.
Combining Your Layers
Add the yellow and blue mixes into your glass in small amounts at a time to create layers. If your smoothie is thicker, you’ll be able to achieve solid layers, but if you prefer a smoother texture like us, you can mix creating swirls of all kinds of colours!
From a certain angle, if you squint one eye and get the lighting right, it sort of resembles Starry Night by Van Gogh. Right? Right???
Drink immediately for maximum taste and freshness!
