Smoothies are often the easiest way for us to start our daily dose of greens. It’s so easy to throw some fruits and veggies into a blender and before you know it, you’ve got a tasty glass full of essential vitamins and nutrients that will supercharge your day (and a filthy blender that we’ll worry about later). Yes, it’s great for your insides, but imagine how cute and mysterious you’ll look with your pretty tumbler on your morning hot girl walk.

 

The liquid you use can make or break the nutritional value of a smoothie. People often add fruit juices, particularly ones from concentrate, that can add more sugar to your drink (which is fine if that’s what you’re looking for). This is where Super Greens comes to the rescue! Adding your Super Greens powder to some water before pouring it into your blender not only adds an extra nine superfoods to your mix, but it gives a smoother texture without the added sugar or dull taste.

The great thing about smoothies is that you can pretty much put whatever you want in there, but I’ve found that this one is the perfect texture with a beautiful balance of sweet and savoury.

PREPARING YOUR SUPER GREENS SMOOTHIE INGREDIENTS

BANANA PREP

For our delicious super greens smoothie we will be using a frozen banana for added texture – it is best to chop peel and chop the banana into your desired sized slices first before placing them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking tray, and pop it into the freezer for about two hours.

KIWI PREP

We chose to peel our kiwi, but that doesn’t mean that you have to.

Kiwi skin as actually rich in fibre, folate,  Vitamin E as well as antioxidants like Vitamin C and is perfectly edible – some people just don’t get along with the texture of it. If you are going to keep the skin on your kiwi for additional nutrients in your super greens smoothie then be sure to thoroughly wash it first to keep safe from germs, pesticide and dirt residue that may be present.

Chopping up your kiwi is ideal and will give your blender a hand, so definitely do that.

AVOCADO PREP

Avocado adds a creamy texture and brings many antioxidants to the table – perfect for our super greens smoothie, but first we need to safely cut it in half:

  1. Cut Around: Place the avocado on its side on a cutting board. Hold it steady with one hand, keeping your fingers clear of the blade. Slice lengthwise until you feel the knife hit the pit. Then, rotate the avocado, keeping the knife in place, to cut all the way around the pit.
  2. Twist Apart: Put down the knife and hold the avocado with both hands. Twist the two halves in opposite directions to separate them, revealing the pit.
  3. Remove the Pit: Quick tip from an avocado pro – when trying to remove the pip, grab the avocado half pip side up in your hand and gently squeeze. This will pop the pip out without having to use a knife or spoon to pry it out. 
  4. Peel the Avocado: Either peel the skin off with your fingers or use a dessert spoon to scoop out the flesh. Slide the spoon along the inside of the skin to remove the flesh in one piece.halved avocado for super greens smoothie

BRINGING YOUR SUPER GREENS SMOOTHIE TOGETHER IN 3 STEPS…

  1. Blending your fruit & veg:
    Fruit and Veg in blender
    Take your frozen banana slices out of the freezer and put it into your blender along with the chopped kiwi, half of the avocado and a handful of spinach.
  2. Whisking the Super Greens Blend

    In a separate glass, add 2 tsps of your Jade & Joy Super Greens powder and water before mixing with a small electric hand whisk.
  3. Blend it into a delicious smoothie:

    Pour your Super Greens mix into the blender along with your fruit & veg, pop the lid on and blend to your desired consistency.

Pour into a clean glass (or your cutest tumbler) and enjoy!

It’s best to enjoy your super greens smoothie immediately, but you can store your smoothie in the fridge for up to 2 days if you like!

In order to keep your smoothie fresh you will need to keep it safe from oxygen, here are a couple of tips on how:

  • Store in an air-tight container such as a mason jar.
  • Pour a bit of lemon juice on top! This keeps the ingredients fresh by keeping oxygen out, plus it adds some Vitamin C. The lemon juice also gives your smoothie a nice, zesty flavour. If you prefer a milder taste, just use a tiny bit of lemon juice and mix it in before drinking. This way, you’ll keep it fresh without it being too tangy.
